Estimates before annual fees, award taxes and surcharges. The optimistic value is a best case that depends on award availability; it is not what the points are expected to be worth, and travel values are not cash payouts.
Plain value: Uses the 1 cent per point cash redemption; this card does not unlock the premium transfer partners on its own. Source
Optimistic: doddo assumes a favorable ThankYou transfer-partner redemption at 1.7 cents per point; the cash redemption is 1 cent per point. Source

How much are credit card points worth?
Points are worth what you redeem them for, so the calculator shows two numbers. The plain value is the number of points × the issuer's advertised cents per point for cash back, a statement credit or a similar redemption, ÷ 100. The optimistic value uses the same math with doddo's travel scenario, such as a strong airline or hotel transfer.
The optimistic value is a best case, not what your points are expected to be worth. It depends on award seats, transfer partners and your travel dates, and it comes before annual fees, award taxes and surcharges. When doddo has not reviewed a plain rate for a program, the calculator says so instead of guessing.
For a sign-up bonus, the value per dollar is the bonus value ÷ the spend required to earn it. It counts only the bonus, not the points the spending earns on its own, and it comes before the card's annual fee. Each rate shows its basis, source and review date under the result.
Frequently asked questions
How much are Chase points worth?
doddo's optimistic scenario for Chase Ultimate Rewards points on the Sapphire cards is 2 cents per point with a strong travel-partner redemption, so 60,000 points come to about $1,200 at best. That is not the standard Chase Travel rate, and doddo's plain value for them is 1 cent per point.
How much are Amex points worth?
doddo's optimistic scenario for American Express Membership Rewards is 2 cents per point with a strong travel-partner redemption, so 60,000 points come to about $1,200 at best. Statement credits and other redemptions can be worth substantially less, and doddo's plain value for them is 0.6 cents per point.
How much are Capital One miles worth?
doddo's optimistic scenario for Capital One miles is 2 cents per mile with a strong airline or hotel partner redemption, so 75,000 miles come to about $1,500 at best. Ordinary travel redemptions can be worth less, and doddo has not reviewed a plain cash rate for them yet.
Is the optimistic value what I will get?
No. It is a best case that needs award availability and the right transfer partner, before fees and surcharges. Plan around the plain value, and treat anything above it as a possible upside.
Why do some programs show no plain value?
doddo shows a plain value only for programs where it has reviewed an advertised redemption rate, such as Citi ThankYou points at 1 cent per point. Airline and hotel programs and some bank programs only have a travel scenario so far, and the calculator says so rather than guessing.
